The purpose of the present invention is to reduce the downtime for switching systems in a communication system which performs functional safety communication. A communication system according to the present invention is provided with: a first preparation unit (1222) which, when a functional safety communication initialization sequence is started between a slave and a control system master, operates so that a first group of sequences, which consists of some of the sequences included in the functional safety communication initialization sequence, is executed between the first preparation unit (1222) and the slave; a second preparation unit (1223) which, upon detecting malfunction of the control system master after the completion of the execution of the first group of sequences, operates so that a second group of sequences, which consists of some of the sequences in the functional safety communication initialization sequence other than the first group of sequences, is executed between the second preparation unit (1223) and the slave; and a control communication control unit (110) which initiates control communication with the slave after the completion of the execution of the second group of sequences. |
