<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk drive and a self-diagnosis method capable of accurately predicting and detecting failures of all magnetic heads even if the magnetic disk drive has a plurality of magnetic heads. <P>SOLUTION: A magnetic head inspection area provided in a disk includes: a read or write area for reading or writing an inspection pattern of a magnetic head; a storage area for storing a shipment inspection result; and a recording area for recording a normal use inspection result if the normal use inspection result is different from the shipment inspection result. A magnetic head inspection means executes a read or write action for the real or write area, and compares a characteristic value of the magnetic head obtained as a result of the execution with a characteristic value of the magnetic head in shipment stored in the storage area. If these two characteristic values are different from each other, the characteristic value of the magnetic head obtained is recorded in the storage area. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT</p> |
