<p> There is obtained a light-source apparatus that, when an optical device such as a projector or the like uses light from a light-source apparatus equipped with a plurality of light sources, can increase the efficiency at which the light on the optical device side is used. This light-source apparatus supplies light to an optical device obtained by being provided with a polarized-light-aligning-function element (57) that includes a long, thin polarized light beam splitter, wherein the apparatus has a plurality of light-emission areas (3m, 3n), and a conversion optical system (5) for converting luminous flux from the light-emission areas to luminous flux compatible with the optical device, the plurality of light-emission areas being disposed such that the number of areas along the long direction (X) of the polarized-light beam splitter is greater than the number of areas along the short direction (Y) of the polarized-light beam splitter.</p> |
