Synthetic or natural rubber materials injected through runners 4, 5 as described in the Parent Specification 1,027,534, are maintained liquid while in the runner 5 during vulcanization of the material in a mould 7, by means of a hollow cooling pin 17 spaced from the inner walls of the runner 5 and through which cooling water circulates from an entry 20 to an exit 21. The cooling pin 17 has a plane, pointed or rounded end 18 which extends to the immediate vicinity of an injection opening 6 leading to the mould cavity 7. The pin 17 is detachably fixed to the mould half 2 and the temperature around the element is measured through a port 22. Vulcanization is effected by heaters 9-12. Cooling bores 15 and thermal barriers 16, 25 are provided in the mould. The moulded article remains attached to the mould part 1 by reason of small entrainment devices 13 and is ejected by means of an ejector pin 14 with or without the assistance of compressed air.</p> |
