In a process for reforming a hydrocarbon charge stock, said charge stock and hydrogen are contacted at reforming conditions with a catalytic composite containing an alumina component, a platinum group metallic component, a halogen component, a sulphur component, and an iron component, the iron component being uniformly distributed throughout the alumina component and the catalytic composite containing said iron component in an amount within the range from 50 p.p.m. to 5000 p.p.m. by weight based upon the alumina and calculated as iron, and containing said sulphur component in an amount within the range from 0.05% to 0À5% by weight calculated as sulphur. The feed stock may be a straight-run gasoline, a thermally or catalytically cracked gasoline or fraction thereof, or a pure hydrocarbon or mixture of hydrocarbons which it is desired to convert to aromatics. The iron compound such as iron chloride, iron bromide, iron acetate, iron fluoride, iron formate, iron iodite or iron nitrate may be distributed throughout the alumina by impregnation of alumina particles, but is preferably performed by mixing the iron-containing compound with an aluminium salt or hydrosol prior to the formation of the alumina particles. The platinum group component may be any of platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, osmium, or iridium. The catalyst may also contain fluorine, chlorine, iodine, or bromine. The examples all relate to the reforming of naphtha.</p>
