<p>Disclosed herein are methods for detecting in a biological sample from a patient the presence or absence of a fusion gene having a 5' portion from a fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) gene or fragment thereof and a 3' portion from a Periphilin-1 (PPHLN1) gene or fragment thereof. The methods can further include diagnosing and treating the patient for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.</p>
