The present invention relates to a vehicle door lock and an associated method for the operation thereof, wherein the vehicle door lock is equipped with a locking mechanism (1, 2), which essentially consists of a catch (1) and a pawl (2). The pawl (2) has a contact surface (3) for the catch (1), which rests on said contact surface when the locking mechanism (1, 2) is closed. According to the invention, a supporting element (6), which delays the opening of the locking mechanism (1, 2), is associated with the pawl (2), so that the catch (1) glides along the contact surface (3) up to a predetermined opening angle (angle α) until is it is released from the pawl (2). |
