[Also in Division H2] In an electric slicing knife having rechargeable batteries 49 forward end member 71 of motor 48 is provided with an integral forwardly extending U-shaped projection 71c open at the top, the side walls of which are recessed to receive journals for shaft 37, and the bottom of which carries a pair of integrally moulded rails 71d which slidably fit within recesses (97) moulded in the base member 27 of the knife handle and engage under hookshaped portions 27e, the motor being clamped into position by a spring 98 extending across the upper portion 28 of the handle and supported by integrally formed projecting fingers 28b. The knife blades and latching mechanism, drive means and safety switch are as described in Specification 1,147,208. The motor 48 comprises a resilient outer shell 60 having a longitudinally extending slit 61 and serving to hold together a flexible permanent magnet 64 and pole shoes 65, 66. Moulded end members 70 71 carry projections having accurately formed external cylindrical surfaces to engage and accurately position the pole shoes. A pair of lengthwise clamp members 94 hold the end members within the cylindrical portion of the motor Commutator end member 70 carries a bearing 72 held in position by retainer 85 fitted in bayonet fashion, while end member 71 carries a ball bearing 74 acting as both a radial and thrust bearing. Base member 27 has a pair of openings 103 within which are located charging contacts 55, 59 each of which comprises a folded over conducting member having a pair of forwardly directed spring fingers 55a terminating in a narrow portion 55b. They are fitted by sliding them from right to left in Fig. 13 so that a clamping portion 55d of the U-shaped body 55c engages under a projecting portion 27i of projection 27h moulded integrally with base member 27 while end portions 55b engage under projection 27j. This action also serves to clamp conductor 53 hooked round projection 27k into position. A charging and storage unit 118 is provided containing an appropriate charging circuit, male contacts of which engage contacts 55, 59 when the handle 21 is inserted into its recess (121). The unit also comprises a blade storage recess 122, and a recess 124 for the tangs 22a of the blades. On the bottom of this recess is a pivotally mounted blade stop 128 having upwardly extending fingers 128a between which blades 22 are received. The blades may be engaged in the handle without removing them from the slot. When one tang engages its latching means in the handle its grease guard 25 will push forward the corresponding finger 128a thus causing the other finger 128a to push its blade back into latching engagement.
