<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stacked barcode reader capable of accurately reading a stacked barcode even if a scanned reflectance waveform thereof fluctuates. <P>SOLUTION: In a decoding section of a stacked barcode reader, a threshold value for distinguishing between bars and spaces of a stacked barcode by luminance values of plural pixels composing image data is calculated. Then, an n-th order differential value (n=1 or 2) is calculated by differentiating a scanned reflectance waveform indicating the luminance values of the plural pixels composing the image data.
