The present invention discloses a device and method for producing a variable depth of field. A variable depth of field imaging device, comprises an aperture control 140 and a light attenuation control 130. The aperture control is adapted to vary the depth of field of an image of an object and the luminance of light reflected by the object. The light attenuation control is adapted to attenuate the luminance of the light reflected by an object. The aperture control and the light attenuation control are operably coupled to one another such that when the depth of field is increased and the luminance of light reflected by the object decreased, the luminance of the light reflected by the object is increased. The method of varying the depth of field and a computer program product containing code for carrying out such a method are also disclosed. |
