Fluid filter for an internal combustion engine

A filter 10 that may be used in an internal combustion engine (ICE) is described. The filter system 10 may be used in the filtering of oil with first 85 and second filter media 210. The first filter 85 has a tubular shape, which defines a central conduit 70 and a second filter 210 is provided, which occludes the central conduit 70. The filter system may also comprise both and inlet 35 and an outlet 40 for the flow of fluid and thus comprise part of a filter cartridge 60. A by-pass valve 165 to the first filter medium 85 is also provided. The second filter 210 may be located in the outlet of the bypass valve system 165 which is activated in the event that the first filter 85 is clogged.
