An axial flux machine rotor assembly comprises first and second axially spaced rotors 404a,404b disposed either side of the stator 402, the first rotor being mounted to a hub flange 412 and the second rotor 404b being mounted only to the first rotor 404a, to form an annular U-shaped enclosure extending either side of the stator. The hub assembly comprises a rotating hub, a stationary mount and a bearing and includes axially spaced hub and mount flanges 412,408. The stator 402 comprising a stator housing 420 having walls 428,424,420,422 enclosing a plurality of wound stator bars disposed circumferentially at intervals around an axis of the machine, the stator housing 402 being mounted to the mount flange 408 via a bulkhead 410. Rotors 404a, 404b comprising a respective set of permanent magnets 418a, 418b. The opening of the U-shape may be arranged to face radially outwardly - fig10 or inwardly - fig4. In fig 4, an annular groove 430 forms a labyrinth seal with ridge 432 and in fig 10 a cover 444 is provided. The bulkhead or mount flange may mount the machine to a structure. The rotors axial position is adjustable by shimming. |
