PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber lateral input and output device and an optical fiber lateral input and output method capable of efficiently collecting an optical signal and efficiently inputting the optical signal to the other optical fiber, easily collecting the optical signal into one optical system, and preventing a stray light.SOLUTION: An input and output device 10 includes: a fixing jig 30 having a curved surface part 31 and a plane part 33 arranged at both ends of the curved surface 31; and an abutment part 40 abutting against a midway part 21 from an opposite side of the curved surface part 31 so as to sandwich the midway part 21 which is a portion of an optical fiber 20 together with the curved surface part 31 and forming a bending part 23 on the midway part 21 together with the curved surface part 31 by the abutment. The input and output device 10 is arranged on the fixing jig 30 and has an input and output optical system 50 for inputting and outputting an optical signal so that the optical signal is input to and output from the optical fiber 20 from a lateral side. When the optical signal is input to and output from the optical fiber 20 from the lateral side, the abutment part 40 and the curved surface part 31 form the bending part 23 so that the optical signal is input to and output from a linear part 25.
