摘要 <p>The present invention relates to a slab width measuring apparatus using a laser and a measuring method thereof and, more specifically, to a slab width measuring apparatus comprising: a sensor unit which measures a distance value from both lateral sides of a slab which is put on a roll table by being formed in one side of a strand; and a control unit which receives, stores, or outputs the distance value measured in the sensor unit. The sensor unit (100) is positioned in one side of a strand (10). A first laser sensor (110) is formed on a line same as one side of a slab (s). A second laser sensor (120) is formed to be positioned in the lower part of the first laser sensor (110). A pipe (200) has a penetration inside, is installed along the outer circumference of the strand (10), has a reflector (221) formed in a curved part, corresponds to the second laser sensor (120) at one end part, and corresponds to the other side of the slab (s) at the other end part. By the forementioned composition, the present invention is able to: measure accurately by suppressing the noise of a laser measurement generated by various kinds of dust, foreign substances, and steam around the strand (10) in a casting process producing the slab (s) since a wavelength emitted from a laser moves to the inside of the pipe (200); and not only prevent a malfunction of the sensor unit (200) generated from high heat but also extend a lifespan and conveniently maintain during works since the sensor unit (100) is not installed between multiple strands.</p>
