1,273,773. Cooling dynamoelectric machines. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 7 May, 1969 [19 June, 1968], No. 23266/69. Heading H2A. In a dynamoelectric machine, e.g. a large turbine generator, having disposed in a plurality of longitudinal slots 15 in an annular stator core 10 an inner-cooled stator winding comprising half-coils 16 each including electrically insulated hollow conductors 17 through which a coolant fluid e.g. water or H.P. hydrogen is circulated by a closed system, there are provided connectors 53 which include for electrically connecting each conductor of one half-coil to a conductor of another half-coil mutually parallel hollow conducting sleeves 65 extending transversely of a pipe 61 connected to the system and having holes 63 communicating with each of the sleeves the pipe being electrically insulated therefrom. Such insulation comprises preferably ceramic tubes 68 brazed to metal tubings 64, 67 in turn brazed to the pipe and sleeves, but Figs. 6. . . 8 discloses modified constructions. Thus the conductors 17, which may be transposed, in different slots, are connected together electrically in series and to the cooling system which comprises fittings 62, intake and discharge insulating pipes 52, 54, annular manifolds 50, 51, pipes 57, 58, a cooler 56, and a pump or compressor 55. The generator otherwise is similar to that disclosed in Specification 920,558.
|
