摘要 A control system for a flywheel assembly 12, comprising a rotor 19, includes a plurality of sensors 13 each arranged to detect rotational motion of the rotor and to provide a motion signal indicative of the rotational motion. A controller 14 is arranged to compare each motion signal to an expected signal; and if any of the motion signals are not equal to the expected signal, the controller arranged to disable the flywheel to prevent flywheel acceleration. The rotor may be a permanent magnet rotor. The flywheel assembly may be driven by inverter 11. The expected signal may be a square wave signal. The sensors may be optical sensors detecting dark and light sections of the flywheel. The flywheel rotor and sensors may be positioned within a vacuum. The sensors may detect dust particles from the rotor blinding at least one of the sensors.
