The handheld analysis device has a mechanical assembly with a transport arrangement (9) for analytical consumable elements, a display device, a sensor (6) for inspecting a bodily fluid sample obtained by a lancet prick, and a memory for saving a series of measurement results. A measurement is started by activating one of the activation elements (13,17). The display device is switched on without activating the mechanical assembly.
