A process for the preparation of raltegravir potassium crystalline form H1, comprising: a. suspending raltegravir in an non-aqueous alcoholic solvent to provide a suspension; b. adding potassium hydroxide to the suspension obtained in step (a) to provide a reaction mass; c. stirring the reaction mass obtained in step (b) at about 25 to 30° C. to provide a slurry, wherein stirring is for a time sufficient to produce raltegravir potassium crystalline form H1 and wherein stirring is for 16 hours or more; and d. isolating raltegravir potassium crystalline form H1 from the slurry, wherein raltegravir potassium crystalline form H1 is in accordance with FIG. 11. | ||
