PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical melting treatment method of a phosphorus-containing material which can reduce contamination of metallic phosphorus compounds including iron phosphides while suppressing volatilization of phosphorus components.SOLUTION: A melting treatment method of a phosphorus-containing material includes: a pretreatment step of adjusting the water content of a phosphorus-containing material containing phosphorus in an amount of 0.04 wt.% or more as dry matter; a melting step of feeding the phosphorus-containing material, from which water has been removed in the pretreatment step, into a melting furnace to melt the phosphorus-containing material; and a cooling step of cooling and solidifying slag generated by the melting in the melting step. An iron compound addition step of adding a divalent or trivalent iron compound to the phosphorus-containing material is performed in, before, or after the pretreatment step, whereby the phosphorus components are captured in the slag while preventing volatilization of the phosphorus components contained in the phosphorus-containing material and suppressing conversion of the phosphorus components to metallic phosphorus compounds including iron phosphides.
