PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a steel member which carries out hardening in a short time with high controllability to some parts of a carbon steel material.SOLUTION: A laser heating part for heating a carbon steel material by irradiating with a laser beam and a water cooling part for cooling the carbon steel material by bringing water in contact with the carbon steel material are arranged side by side, and a carbon steel material is moved relative to the laser heating part and the water cooling part. A part of the carbon steel material is irradiated with a laser beam in the laser heating part and then brought into contact with water in the water cooling part. The width of the water cooling part is preferably wider than that of the laser heating part, and the distance between the laser heating part and the water cooling part is preferably equal to ro smaller than the length of the laser heating part. |
