1530243 Coating compositions containing partially hydrolyzed alkyl polysilicates STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 16 March 1977 11188/77 Heading C3T A vehicle for a coating composition consists of an alkyl polysilicate which has been hydrolysed at pH 1 to 6À5 in an organic solvent to a degree corresponding to the loss of 50-65% of the alkyl groups of the orthosilicate, an organic solvent and 3 to 5À5 wt. per cent of the vehicle of ZnCl 2 . A coating composition may contain the vehicle and a powder, e.g. Zn, e.g. in 10 : 90 to 70 : 30 wt. ratio. In the examples 22À5-60 p.b.w. of water are added to 1000 p.b.w. of "ethyl silicate 40" in ethoxyethanol ipo 0À3wt. per cent/ZnCl 2 , and 4% of ZnCl 2 is added to the product. 241 p.b.w. of the resulting vehicle are mixed with 735 p.b.w. of Zn dust, 21 p.b.w. diatomaceous earth and 3 p.b.w. of treated bentonite to give a single package corrosion resistant coating compositions which is applied to a steel substrate. |
