The present invention aims to provide a holding sealing material that reduces the amount of organic components in exhaust gases when the holding sealing material is exposed to high temperatures in an exhaust gas purifying apparatus; that may be manufactured in fewer steps; and that prevents mats from being layered with a wrong combination. The holding sealing material of the present invention includes a one-sheet mat that includes inorganic fibers, the one-sheet mat includes a first mat with a first side face and a second mat with a second side face, and a part of the first side face and a part of the second side face are foldably and integrally connected.
