PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a papermaking external additive agent capable of sufficiently preventing the wear of a papermaking article and an adhesion of dirt to a papermaking article in a papermaking process, and to provide a papermaking method using the papermaking external additive agent.SOLUTION: A papermaking external additive agent contains 1 to 30 mass% of the following compound (A): (A) a compound represented by the following formula (1) R-O-(BO)m-(EO)n-H (in the formula, R is a linear hydrocarbon group having 12-20 carbon atoms, BO is an oxybutylene group, EO is an oxyethylene group, m is an average addition molar number of BO and is 1 to 15, n is an average addition molar number of EO and is 18 to 50, the total of m and n is 20-65, the ratio of m to n (m:n) is from 2:98 to 25:75, and a weight average molecular weight is 1200-3000). |
