Contactless CAN (controller area network) bus readers with capacitive sensors 24,26 are known in the art and typically send the sensor outputs for processing in a separate device to recover the CAN bus bit stream. The invention proposing incorporating processing PCB 6 into the probe reader housing 2 alongside the clamps securing the sensed portions 14,16 of the CAN bus wires 8,10. Thus output 12 carries a duplicate of the data stream carried on the CAN bus. The reduced sensor processor distance should reduce the required sensor sensitivity/size needed to accurately recover the CAN bus signals. The housing preferably has a hinged cover with a foam pad to bias wires 14,16 close to the sensors 24,26. It may also include arms to secure the PCB. Preferably with wires 8,10 are held with a separation between 1mm and 10mm. |
