1. A method, comprising:
providing a mixture of alloy elements of an alloy that are at least partially crystalline; and heating the mixture in a container to a temperature above a melting temperature of the alloy elements to form a molten alloy; quenching the molten alloy to form a solidified alloy; heating the solidified alloy to a temperature to soften the solidified alloy to form a softened alloy, wherein the temperature is above a glass transition temperature of the alloy but is lower than the melting temperature of the alloy; cooling the softened alloy to form a cast, wherein the cast is at least substantially amorphous; and wherein the container comprises silica, the alloy does not wet or dissolve the container substantially during the method of melting. |
