<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of improving the detection accuracy of a current flowing in a transfer member when discriminating whether an image carrier and the transfer member are in a contact state or in a separation state and to provide a control method.SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a plurality of photoreceptor drums 101, a plurality of primary transfer rollers 105, a plurality of primary transfer high-pressure parts 200, and a CPU 210. The CPU 210 compares the current flowing in the primary transfer rollers 105, detected as a current detection signal in a current detection circuit 213 with a threshold, to discriminate whether the photoreceptor drums 101 and the primary transfer rollers 105 are in the contact state or in the separation state. Further, the CPU 210 switches the gain of the current detection signal of the current detection circuit 213 between when it is discriminated whether the photoreceptor drums 101 and the primary transfer rollers 105 are in the contact state or in the separation state and when the value of a high voltage applied to the primary transfer rollers 105 in image formation is calculated.</p> |
