The present invention relates to technology for controlling a chatting window and, more specifically, to a method for controlling multiple chatting windows and an electronic device thereof. The method for operating the electronic device according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises an operation for displaying a first chatting window on a messenger screen; an operation for receiving a message from the outside; and an operation for displaying a second chatting window comprising the first chatting window and the received message on the messenger screen when the received message is unrelated to the first chatting window.
