Disclosed is a method to control a hybrid vehicle which comprises: a motor connected to an automatic transmission; an engine which is selectively connected to the motor by an engine clutch; and a battery to supply power to the motor. The method of the present invention includes: a step of determining whether a current vehicle driving mode is an EV mode operated by a motor, whether a current vehicle driving state meets the conditions for kick-down transmission, and whether the current vehicle driving state meets the conditions for a driving mode conversion to convert to an HEV mode operated by the motor and an engine; a step of starting-on the engine if the kick-down transmission conditions and the driving mode conversion conditions are met; a step of measuring a current motor speed; a step of measuring discharge power of a battery; a first comparison step of comparing the measured motor speed and a motor reference speed set in accordance to the discharge power of the battery; a step of calculating a transmission input shaft target speed for kick-down transmission; a second comparison step of comparing the calculated transmission input shaft target speed, and a transmission input shaft target reference speed set in accordance to the discharge power of the battery; and a step of determining an order of the kick-down transmission and combination control of an engine clutch in accordance to the first and second comparison steps, and performing the kick-down transmission and the combination control of the engine clutch. |
