APPARATUS AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING CIRCUIT BREAKER USING ADAPTIVE CONTROL METHOD

An apparatus and a method of controlling opening/closing of a circuit breaker using an adaptive control technique are provided. The apparatus of controlling opening/closing of a circuit breaker using an adaptive control technique comprises: an open/close timing calculating unit which calculates an open/close timing for a circuit breaker for reducing an arc generated at opening and closing of the circuit breaker based on a phase of a power line at a timing when a circuit breaker open/close signal is inputted; an adaptive control calculating unit which calculates a compensation delay time due to deterioration of the circuit breaker based on first past history data including an actual operation time, from the timing when the circuit breaker open/close signal is inputted and a timing when the circuit breaker is actually opened or closed, and second past history data on calculated operation time from the timing when the circuit breaker open/close signal is inputted to the calculated open/close timing; an open/close timing selecting unit which compensates for the calculated open/close timing for the circuit breaker by the calculated compensation delay time to generate a circuit breaker open/close driving signal; and an open/close driving unit which applies the generated circuit breaker open/close driving signal to the circuit breaker. Performance degradation of the circuit breaker due to an open/close surge (arc) is prevented, and the circuit breaker can be operated at a desired timing irrespective of the degradation of the circuit breaker.
