A data processing apparatus that processes image data of a moving image, the data processing apparatus comprising: acquiring means for acquiring variations, the variations representing degrees of change on a frame by frame basis in the image data; display-type determining means for dividing the image data of the moving image into sections based on comparing the variations in the frames with a plurality of predetermined thresholds and judging the continuity of the variations in the frames, and for determining, on the basis of the variations and for each section, which way of a plurality of different ways of displaying frames the image data is to be displayed for the respective section; and display control means for causing a display to display type information representing the plurality of different ways of displaying frames and position information representing a position of each section in the image data.
