PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of an internal combustion engine that resolves clogging of a gas flow hole provided at a cover for protecting a gas sensor element, which is caused by ash, and thereby effectively inhibits the sensor response deterioration due to the clogging.SOLUTION: A gas sensor 5 includes: a sensor element 51; and a cover 54 covering the sensor element 51, the cover 54 in which a gas flow hole 54a for introducing exhaust air to a gas measurement chamber S defined therein is opened. A control device 10 controls the operation state of an internal combustion engine 100 in which the gas sensor 5 is disposed. The control device 10 controls the operation state of the internal combustion engine 100 on the basis of a change rate of a detection value of the gas sensor 5 so that a gas temperature in the gas flow hole 54a of the cover 54 becomes 750°C or higher.
