PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce standby time to be generated due to removal of a discharge product and effectively prevent an abnormal image. ! SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus includes: cleaning means; separation means for separating lubricant application means from an image carrier; and control means for controlling drive of the image carrier, developing means, cleaning means, the lubricant application means, and the separation means, respectively. The control means has lubricant removal mode which drives at least the image carrier, developing means, and cleaning means for a predetermined time, and causes the lubricant application means to execute intermittent operation which repeats operation and suspension, and toner coating mode which separates the cleaning means and lubricant application means from the image carrier by means of the separation means after the lubricant removal mode, and forms a toner image uniformly on the image carrier by means of the developing means. !
