<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To predict a trouble in an IC card reader at an early stage. <P>SOLUTION: In the card, information is stored by means of an IC chip and a magnetic medium. The IC card reader stores a history list associating information showing whether the IC chip is detected or not when the card is inserted with magnetic information read from the magnetic medium in the card. In the history list, attention is focused on a part from which the IC chip is not detected. Detection of no IC chip is considered as occurrence of a trouble in either of the IC chip and the IC card reader. Since the magnetic information varies in respective cards, information about the number of insertion of the same card and the number of different inserted cards is obtained when the magnetic information is referred. In the part from which no IC chip is detected in the history list, it is determined that the card has a trouble when a small number of cards are inserted repeatedly.
