<p>The invention relates to an airbag system 24 for a vehicle 10, the airbag system comprising: at least one side door 58, 60, 62, 64 for the vehicle, the side door being pivotably mounted on a body of the vehicle; and at least one airbag 34, 36, 38, 40 capable of being deployed from a stowage position into at least one protective position, the airbag covering at least a portion of an external surface of the side door in the protective position. There is also disclosed a system comprising a front bumper or cross member 14 and/or a rear bumper or cross member 18, where each is respectively arranged in front of or behind a structural member 20, 22. At least one airbag 26, 28, 30, 32 is arranged between the cross member and structural member, so that when the airbag is deployed into a protective position the cross member is supported on the airbag. The systems are intended to reduce the risk of intrusion into the passenger space of the vehicle in the event of a side, front and/or rear collision.</p> |
