Medical instrument with laterally mobile seal

The instrument (10) has a seal (14) with an opening (16) that include changeable opening cross section. An expansion device is provided for expanding the opening of the seal. The expansion device has an expansion cone (20) comprising a set of slats (22) that are pivotably mounted on an annular body (24). The slats form an expansion body that stays in connected with the seal in an area of the opening. A flexible casing body e.g. flexible casing tube (26), accommodates the seal and the expansion device. The expansion cone and the flexible casing body are made of a hard plastic.
