A red phosphor material including a base component indicated by the formula ALn1-x-yEuxSmyM2O8 as the main component thereof. A is at least one type selected from Li, Na, and K; Ln is at least one type selected from La and Gd, M is at least one type selected from W and Mo, and x and y are numerical values fulfilling 0.1 ≤ x + y ≤ 0.7 and 0 ≤ y ≤ 0.08. This red phosphor material may also contain an additional component being at least one type selected from Li2O, Na2O, K2O, CaCl2, SrCl2, BaCl2, and B2O3.
