Provided is a sound reduction or vibration damping device having a new sound control principle totally different from the sound control principles of conventional passive or active sound control devices. This sound reduction or vibration damping device (1) is provided with a mass part (11), a spring part (12a, 12b) interposed between the mass part (11) and a structural member (13), and a control unit (4) which continues to change the spring constant of the spring part (12a, 12b). This sound reduction or vibration damping device (1) is mounted to the structural member (13), and reduces sound transmitted through the structural member (13) or sound generated from the structural member, or damps the vibration of the structural member (13). |
