346,566. Stereoscopic kinematography. CAIRNS, A., 67, Easton Road, New Ferry, Birkenhead. April 9, 1930, No. 11222. [Class 97 (i).] Means for al. ternately covering the right eye and left eye of a person viewing alternately projected stereoscopic pairs of images comprises a shutter operated electrostatically and without external connections. As shown, the shutter comprises arms r, r<1>, and is pivoted on a spectacle frame of insulating material provided with vulcanite filling pieces p, p<1> having viewing slits or holes o, o<1>. The shutter rests under gravity with the arm r in contact with a metal bar b. When placed in an electric field, the bar b and the shutter become similarly charged, and the shutter is repelled by the bar to cover the hole o and uncover the hole o<1>, its movement being limited by a stop m. An intermittent field of suitable frequency may be produced in a theatre by connecting insulated overhead wires to a source of high-tension unidirectional intermittent current. The apparatus may be enclosed in an air-exhausted container from which only the end of the bar projects. According to the Provisional Specification, the spectators may be located on an insulated floor which is intermittently charged.
