Visual insufflation obturator

An insufflation obturator comprising a bladeless, tapered tip including an insufflation vent hole, the tip also including a micro-seal located adjacent to the vent hole and configured such that the entire micro-seal is movable with respect to the tip between a first position sealing the vent hole and a second position permitting insufflation gas to flow out through the vent hole. The micro-seal thus enables the outflow (antegrade) of insufflating gasses such as carbon dioxide yet prevents the inflow (retrograde) of moisture and/or body fluids which could obstruct or impair the visualization properties through the distal tip of the obturator.
