A process for producing a lithium-containing composite oxide, whereby it becomes possible to synthesize a lithium-containing composite oxide that contains Li and at least one metal element other than Li and has a crystal structure belonging to a layered rock salt structure, and it becomes also possible to prevent the formation of impurities under high-temperature/high-oxidized reaction conditions. The process comprises: a melting reaction step of reacting a metal-containing raw material that contains a metal element in a molten salt, which is prepared by melting a molten salt raw material, at a reaction temperature that is equal to or higher than 350°C and is equal to or higher than the melting point of the molten salt raw material, wherein the molten salt raw material contains dehydrated lithium hydroxide, which comprises dehydrated lithium hydroxide, in an amount of 50 mol% or more relative to the total amount, i.e., 100 mol%, of the molten salt raw material, and also contains Li at a molar ratio larger than the theoretical content of Li in the lithium-containing composite oxide; and a collection step of collecting the lithium-containing composite oxide produced in the melting reaction step. |
