A logistics database is accessed to obtain at least one logistics criterion for the piece of heavy equipment, wherein the at least one logistics criterion defines one or more logistical characteristics for the piece of heavy equipment. The shipping estimate is calculated for the piece of heavy equipment based, at least in part, upon the manufacturer/model of the piece of heavy equipment, the starting location and the destination location of the piece of heavy equipment, the plurality of equipment characteristics for the piece of heavy equipment, and the at least one logistics criterion for the piece of heavy equipment.
