PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation apparatus that can, when the reduction scale of display is increased, display the situation around its vehicle more realistically.SOLUTION: A navigation apparatus comprises a vehicle position detector 5 for detecting the vehicle position, a vehicle position calculator 20, cameras 8a to 8d for shooting the surroundings of the vehicle, a map data memory device 3 for acquiring map data needed for map display matching a prescribed range of the surroundings of the vehicle, a map buffer 10, a map drawing unit 14 that generates map pictures and the like of the surroundings of the vehicle position, a display processor 40, a top view picture converter 50, a picture synthesizer 52 and a reduction scale determining unit 60. When the reduction scale is greater than a prescribed value, the display is switched over from map picture display to real pictures shot with the cameras 8a to 8d. |
