<p>The present invention relates to a lifetime estimating device of a surge protector capable of significantly improving product reliability by detecting resistance inside the surge protector to determine a lifetime of a product, and estimating a residual lifetime according to an exact substitution of the product by applying an input surge signal as a parameter, and to a method thereof. The lifetime estimating device of a surge protector includes: the surge protector interposed in a communications line; a resistance detector to detect the internal resistance of the surge protector; a resistance measurement driver to measure resistance applied to an inside of the surge protector; a surge current detector to detect a magnitude of a surge current introduced into the surge protector; and a controller to estimate and determined a residual lifetime of the surge protector through the detected internal resistance of the surge protector. When a magnitude of the surge current detected through the surge current detector is less than 10 KA, and a lifetime termination time of the surge protector is 100%, if the resistance is 1) 0Ωto 100 KΩ, the controller determines that the lifetime termination time of the surge protector is 0% (normal state). If the resistance exceeds 2) 100 KΩ, the controller determines that the lifetime termination time of the surge protector is increased by 1% per 10 KΩ(residual lifetime). If the resistance is 3) 600 KΩ, the controller determines that the lifetime termination time of the surge protector is 50%. If the resistance exceeds 4) 600 KΩ, the controller determines that the lifetime termination time of the surge protector is increased by 1.25% per 10 KΩ(residual lifetime). If the resistance is 5) 1000 KΩ, the controller determines that the lifetime termination time of the surge protector is 100% (substitution: failure).</p> |
