The device (2) has a series of N carriages (26, 28) sliding according to a direction of sliding motion, where N is an integer equal to or higher than 2. Each carriage is attached to the consecutive carriage by a multiplying mechanism (30) such that the sliding motion of the carriage at amplitude involves sliding motion of the consecutive carriage at another amplitude. The latter amplitude is higher than the former amplitude. A retractable bridging-over terminal (12) is integral with one of the carriages. The mechanism includes a cogwheel (36), which gears with a fixed toothed rack (32) and a movable toothed rack (34).
