A kit for joining opposing ends of two medium-voltage cables, comprising a conductive connector 22 for connecting the conductors of the cables, an insulating surround material 26 for enveloping the connector, a partial discharge detector (32 figure 2 and 4), comprising a generally cylindrical conductive sheath around the insulating surround, from which a conductive element (40) extends in an axial direction along the length of at least one of the cables, an outer protective tube 10 for surrounding the remainder of the kit, wherein the conductive element is sufficiently long to project out of the protective tube. The conductive sheath (figure 4) may have an axial slit 38. The protective tube may be a heat-shrink material and its inner face may be coated with an adhesive layer. |
