Sprinkler assembly for attachment to a piping system

A sprinkler assembly utilising adapters and fittings to attach to fire extinguishing systems. The assembly has a sprinkler body (102) having opposite first and second ends and a threaded section (154) adjacent the first end. A thermally responsive element is mounted to the sprinkler body. An adapter (106) has opposite third (108) and fourth (110) ends and an internal passageway (112) extending there between, the third end (108) configured to attach to an access member of a piping system in fluid communication with the passageway (112). The passageway (112) has a threaded section (114) adjacent the fourth end (110), and the threaded section (114) includes a straight thread. The passageway (112) includes an annular recess section (116) having an outer wall with an inner diameter that is larger than an inner diameter of the threaded section (114) of the adapter (106) and a shoulder (140) is disposed at an upstream end of the annular recess section (116). A resilient seal member (118) is disposed in the annular recess section (116) against the shoulder (140) of the passageway (112) of the adapter (106) adjacent the threaded section (114). The first end of the sprinkler body (102) engages with and compresses the seal member (118) when the threaded section (154) of the sprinkler body (102) is engaged with the threaded section (114) of the passageway (112) and forms a fluid-tight seal between the adapter (106) and the sprinkler body (102).
