In one version, a power source (365) in the unit includes one or more solar cells (116) which convert solar energy to electrical energy for powering both the unit 100, 200, 300, 350, 360, 400) and the field device (14). The unit (100, 200, 300, 350, 360, 400) interacts with the field device (14) according to a standard industrial communication protocol.
