摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inorganic polarizing blazed diffraction grating facilitating the manufacture, having high degree of freedom in design and using a photonic crystal. SOLUTION: The inorganic polarizing blazed diffraction grating according to the present invention includes: photonic crystal forming parts comprising recesses and protrusions having a fixed period formed on the surface of a transparent substrate; and flat parts that are adjoined to the photonic crystal forming parts and formed with no photonic crystal. The photonic crystal forming parts and the flat parts are formed as a part corresponding to a step of a step-like refractive index distribution of the blazed diffraction grating. The structure of different unit regions is configured such that effective refractive indices of the unit regions are changed stepwise by changing the width of the recesses/protrusions of the photonic crystal, the width of the flat parts, or the both and, by repeatedly disposing the regions in which the effective refractive indices are changed stepwise, a pseudo blazed diffraction grating is formed.
