The cup (1) has an exterior surface (3) coated with porous material layer (4) to support osteosynthesis, and a cavity formed in an insert to receive a head (5) of collar of a femoral part of a hip prosthesis. Radial thickness of the porous material layer varies between a freely edge and a top of the cup. Thickness of the layer decreases on an angular segment toward the top of the cup. The radial thickness is maximum at free edge of the cup and minimal at the top of the cup, where the thickness decreases linearly from the edge toward the top. An independent claim is also included for a total hip prosthesis.
