<p>A cutting insert is provided to extend the life span of the cutting insert by securely removing swarf when the cutting insert is fed in a traverse direction to form a groove or a hole. A cutting insert comprises an insert body(1) having a shaft shape and a cutting blade section(2) formed at an end of the insert body. The cutting blade section has a rectangular flank surface(5). The flank surface is provided with a pair of transverse cutting blades(3) that extend lengthwise along the insert body, a front cutting blade(4) extending between the transverse cutting blades in a cross direction to the insert body, a pair of protrusions(11) extending toward a corner(6) at which the transverse cutting blade crosses the front cutting blade, and projections(12) spaced apart from the protrusions.</p> |
